Third Installment

Disclaimer:  This is a work of fiction based off of the Lego Bionicle story.  I do not intend to make money off of this blog.  I have links to BIONICLEsector01 and The BIONICLE Wiki so that if you want to know more about the things I mention you can look them up and to also show I did not come up with the things that are linked and I do not take ownership of them.  I do not describe the things that are linked for the sake of focusing on the story behind my self MOC and trying to have those interested in learning more go to the other sources and learn about the Bionicle Universe on their own.  I have Maori words in my story and I am using them to add to the feel of the story.  I am not trying to use the words as my own or change their meaning.  As such the Maori words that are not already part of Bionicle but are in my blog should translate very closely to, if not exactly to the already established translation from Maori to English.  I do not claim ownership of the words in any fashion. I also use made up words and words that have part of Māori words or words from another language.  Again, not trying to claim any ownership or change the meaning just using them to fit the feel of the story.  I am writing this blog just for fun and I am not trying to make any kind of statement.  I hope all of my readers enjoy the story.

Okoto
The eight found themselves in the middle of a primitive group of shelters housing villagers. Maruahi felt a being searching his thoughts and those of the other Toa.  He used his Suletu ability to block the other being out of his own mind and the minds of his fellow Toa.  Then the being paused everything but Maruahi and told him that as a new resident he and his companions must be examined.  Maruahi resisted and said that he had been given no reason to trust the voice of a being he could not see.  The being told him that it was called Okoto, this was the island of Okoto and the island was part of a giant robot.  The being wanted peace and happiness for its inhabitants new and old.  To do that it believed that a balance of elemental users must be maintained.  Yet, it also wanted its inhabitants to be free and not inflict changes on them at will but rather in the most extreme of circumstances or when new beings came from other universes.  Maruahi asked if other beings from other universes had shown up earlier.  Okoto replied that they had not but it was aware of other universes’ existence and it had certain protocols in place in case beings from other universes showed up.  Maruahi said that Okoto still had not given him proof that it meant him and his companions no harm and his mental blocking would not cease.  Okoto asked if Maruahi or his companions meant any harm.  Maruahi said that they meant no harm and if anything, they would rather go back to their own universe.  Okoto read the truth in his words and told Maruahi that the ability to teleport from universe to universe was not an ability that Okoto could create or had seen before.  Teleporting within the Okoto universe was possible with help from Okoto or if Okoto provided the necessary information to those wishing to make a teleportation device.  Then Okoto sighed and accepted that it would not get to learn everything it wanted from the new beings but it could still make similar beings to keep its elemental balance.
Then two beings came out of the ground; Umarak, whom Okoto called “the Master of Shadow” and Teniki, whom Okoto called “the Ice Wraith”.  Umarak was similar to Takanuva but his element was Shadow instead of Light while Teniki was supposed to be modeled after Maruahi.  Maruahi could sense that Umarak had not been copied properly and his abilities were too great in some aspects and too weak in others.  Then he began examining Teniki and found that Teniki was dying because Okoto had not understood Maruahi’s essence.  Teniki was weak and his essence was unstable.  Teniki doubled over with pain.  Okoto un-paused the rest of the Toa and told them to please help Taniki survive.  Maruahi, Umarak, Takanuva, and Kopaka tried to help him by fueling him with their elements but he burst and the elements returned to their originators and Taniki was gone.  Okoto began assaulting Maruahi’s mind and the two fought telepathically.  While trying to gain the upper hand mentally, Okoto said that Teniki had died because Maruahi let him die.  Maruahi insisted that it was because Okoto had tried to make a copy of Maruahi without asking for directions.  Okoto said that if he had been able to examine Maruahi’s mind then he could have gotten it right.  Maruahi said that Okoto should have waited and asked if Maruahi would consent to help make a being to mirror him.  Okoto won the upper hand in the telepathic dual and began to destroy Maruahi’s sentient capabilities and revert him to a being of pure instinct.  Then Okoto gave Maruahi a memory that Umarak and the other Toa had hurt him and were going to continue hurting him unless he fought back.  Maruahi began attacking the other Toa and successfully killed them all.  Okoto then decided that Maruahi was too powerful to let live and tried to kill Maruahi with lightning and with mental attacks.  Maruahi absorbed the lightning and then everything paused.  Okoto did not understand, he had not paused anything.  Maruahi told Okoto that by giving him the upper hand he had been able to distract and trick him.  While Okoto saw a scenario that Maruahi played out for him Maruahi examined the mind of Okoto and got to know his weaknesses, the ins and outs of the giant robot and the abilities Okoto had.  Maruahi told Okoto that he had been in multiple telepathic duels before, while Okoto had never met a being with telepathic abilities other than itself till this point.
Maruahi said that he could have killed Okoto and the inhabitants of the giant robot would not have known the difference.  Especially since Okoto wiped the minds of those who found out that there was a higher power than their village protectors and elders.  Maruahi said that he took no joy in killing but he would kill if Okoto again threatened his mind or the minds of the other Toa.  Okoto promised that as long as Maruahi and the other Toa did not attack his inhabitants he would not use telepathy in an attacking manner anymore.  Maruahi said that if he or the other Toa felt threatened then they would defend themselves and if need be they would kill their attackers, no matter who they were.  Okoto saw that he could not be swayed and consented.  Okoto asked how Maruahi had gained the ability to pause the universe as Okoto could.  Maruahi told him that as long as a being knew how to take control of the universe it could do so and with control of the universe the being would then have all of the abilities Okoto currently had.  He also told Okoto that he had learned that Okoto was not the intended end user of the giant robot and that the giant robot was supposed to be exploring other planets and other universes once the true end user took control of the universe.  Maruahi relinquished control of the universe and mentally took them back to the other Toa and then he saw Teniki.
Teniki had not actually died but his physical body had burst and then disintegrated.  His spirit was still alive and had found the strength to make its presence known to Maruahi and Okoto.  Teniki blamed Okoto for defectively creating him and all the pain that had he had experienced while his physical body died.  Teniki then attacked.  Okoto had never had a spirit attack it before and begged Maruahi to help him.  Maruahi tried to use his telepathic, telekinetic, and elemental abilities to stop Teniki but he could not affect the spirit.  Maruahi then took control of the universe again and began fighting Teniki spirit to spirit.  Okoto asked why Maruahi did not just kill Teniki.  Maruahi said that he saw determination and defiance in Teniki and he never killed anything with true determination unless there was no other choice.  He tried to reason with Teniki and get him to understand that killing was not right answer for making a mistake.  He said that if Okoto had known Teniki would go through that pain and if Okoto had known that Teniki would die then Okoto would not have made him.  Teniki would not be swayed and broke free from Maruahi and began fighting Okoto again.  Okoto was losing and began to fade.  Maruahi wrenched Teniki off of Okoto and threatened to kill him if he kept attacking.  Teniki shot a spirit icicle from his arm at Okoto’s head killing him.  Teniki then wriggled free and said Maruahi should work on his spirit fighting skills.  Maruahi started a spirit fire in Teniki’s head but it did not kill him instantly allowing Teniki to flee and survive.  Maruahi then began destroying all the systems of the giant robot.  With Okoto dead, no knowledge of the intended end user of the giant robot and with Teniki running free Maruahi saw no other way to keep the inhabitants of the universe safe except stopping anyone from gaining control of the universe.  Maruahi was never big on being having universe control in the first place.  He transferred all of the necessary requirements for an Okoto universe teleportation device and a device that could turn him into a spirit and then continued to destroy the giant robot’s inner workings.  He teleported all of the inhabitants to the island of Okoto, the only habitable place in the universe once the giant robot was shut down.  Maruahi was glad that the Mata Nui robot had a better design than this one.  Since no other place in the universe was habitable he destroyed them and left only the island of Okoto and the giant robot head.  If he destroyed the head with the systems available to him he would severely damage the island and possibly get some villagers killed.  He then initiated the final self-destruct protocol, un-paused the universe, and teleported himself to the island of Okoto.  Teniki was hiding on the island growing in strength and studying the inhabitants to see if he could find a way to communicate or physically interact with them so as to gain some allies to help him fight against Maruahi.
Maruahi now in his own body told the other Toa to work with the villagers to make the island habitable while he, Umarak and Takanuva came up with a plan to defeat Teniki.  The other Toa began forming the island regions after the regions of the Island of Mata Nui.  As the regions were formed Elemental Creatures were formed and united with the Toa to enhance their work.  Then Agil, Creature of Light and Nobrahi, Creature of Shadow united with Takanuva and Umarak respectively.  They then helped imbue villagers with elemental traits as the other six had once they united with their creatures.  Maruahi heard a voice.  He realized that Okoto was still alive.
Okoto wanted to make a creature for him to unite with so as to balance out the elemental users.  Maruahi agreed to aid in the creation of Drahkir only if he got to pick some of its attributes.  The island agreed.  Maruahi saw that the other creatures increased the elemental abilities of their Toa and added a new capability or asset to the Toa, such as flight, armor, weapon, etc.  Maruahi wanted his creature to provide all three of these things.  The island did not want to give him such an advantage over the other Toa so it declared that the creature’s elemental contributions would decrease as the Toa used multiple assets.  If the uniting Toa used both assets and the flight ability, then the creature would not contribute any elemental contributions and if the Toa used two of the additions then the elemental creature would contribute half of the elemental power other creatures could contribute.  The island also did not want the creature to tap into its Shadow or Light abilities without the help of its uniting Toa.  Maruahi said he would agree only if he could teach Drahkir to tap into its Shadow and Light abilities over time and if he could also teach the creature to detach from him while still providing him with a shield or sword or both.  The island agreed and used Maruahi’s help to form Drahkir.
Maruahi then asked Okoto how he had survived.  Okoto said that he had merely hidden himself because as a spirit Teniki could only cause pain but not death and likewise while in spirit form Okoto could be hurt but not killed.  Due to his wounds, he had not been able to stop Maruahi from destroying the giant robot, minus the head and the island itself.  Maruahi worked with Okoto to install protocols that would trap Teniki if he ever tried to take over the island.  Then the two started discussing a way to safely get rid of the head of the giant robot that was no longer of any use.
Maruahi worked with Okoto to disconnect the head of the giant robot and sunk it to the bottom of the ocean.  Maruahi found that the only mask he had was his Protosteel Rode Nuva all the others were lost in the transition to Okoto because in the Okoto dimension a being could only wear one mask at a time.  He had not noticed earlier because things had begun happening quickly once he and the other Toa arrived on the island.  Maruahi used his telekinetic abilities to draw in air that he could breathe on his way down to the bottom of the ocean.  Using his Hau Nuva shield abilities he put a shield around himself and the air pocket.  He telekinetically propelled himself through the water to the giant head and melted it down.  As he was coming back up he saw that the head had flattened a cave and round masses were rising to the surface.  The masses began washing ashore on different parts of the island.  The beaches were covered with the masses.  Maruahi went up to one of the masses and tapped it.  Then they all began to open at once and out came giant spiders.  They were spider eggs for giant spiders with gills and mouths so that they could breathe under water and on land.
The spiders were all over the island within a matter of hours and began attacking the villagers.  Others returned to the bottom of the ocean and brought up their queen, her guards, and the rest of the spiders.  They had been content underground but now with their cave destroyed and with so many new mouths to feed they wanted to use the island as a base for their food supply.  Maruahi enlisted the help of the other Toa to defeat them.  The eight fought off the queen of the giant spiders and her hordes that plagued the island.  Maruahi, Takanuva and Umarak were fending off the queen’s guards and the horde while the other six combined their elemental abilities to destroy the queen.  They did not know that Okoto’s safety protocol against beings combining their elemental abilities was still active.  While in the Mata Nui universe the combining six elements created a Toa Seal, so that only the repeated combining of elements would free those trapped in the Toa seal.  On Okoto combining more than three elements opened a doorway into another dimension.
If all eight elements are combined, then a mirror dimension would open up.  If six are combined, then the users of the combined elements lose their bodies to another dimension and their souls would be sent into the sky and those hit with the combined elements were disintegrated.  The other dimensions are still part of the greater Okoto dimension but the smaller dimensions trap those who combined their elements so that they cannot become too powerful and enslave the inhabitants of the Okoto universe.  After defeating the queen the six were sent up into the night sky and became stars and they lost their masks and their memories.  They could only return when summoned by the protectors at the Temple of Time.  After the fall of their queen the giant spiders fell into disarray and started fighting and killing each other trying to replace the queen as ruler of the horde.  The horde destroyed itself to the point where there were only two survivors and those survivors hid from Maruahi and Takanuva.  These survivors would later become known as the Lord of Skull Spiders and the Baroness of Skull Spiders.

Maruahi and Takanuva aided the villagers with the first Okotan elemental masks and masks of power.  The villagers and Protectors saw Maruahi as the more experienced and wiser of the two and yet they liked Takanuva better because Maruahi continued to seek out threats and his tact had not improved.  The villagers and Protectors were happy with the masks, crystal armor, crystal weapons, and the elemental lessons they received from Maruahi but saw him as a trouble maker and a herald of woe; just as the villagers and Protectors in the Mata Nui dimension.
Takanuva was sent to the stars before the prophecy of the coming of the six Toa was foretold and before the fall of Makuta.  He sacrificed himself fighting Nobrahi.  The villagers of light and the villagers of shadow used to live in peace with each other and the rest of the island.  Nobrahi  and Umarak became corrupted by shadow and wished to engulf Okoto with shadow and turn all of its inhabitants into shadow users.  They started with the light villagers but instead of changing or adding to their elemental abilities they accidentally killed their first experiments.  Rather than stopping they kept trying even when the light villagers started attacking and killing shadow villagers in retaliation.  This conflict killed off all but one of the light villagers and all but one of the shadow villagers.  Agil, Creature of Light sustained too many injuries to survive but Maruahi was able to use the Rangahau to shrink Agil to save the creature’s life.  However, the change in size prevented Agil from uniting with Takanuva.  Maruahi further used Rangahau to ensure Agil could unite one last time if the need was dire but this would cause Agil to sacrifice itself.  Maruahi was distracted and very far away fighting Umarak when Takanuva defeated Nobrahi but lost his life in the process.  Takanuva sent up a signal to alert Maruahi of his danger before finishing off Nobrahi.  Maruahi used the signal to teleport himself via light to get back to Takanuva.  Upon rematerializing Maruahi realized that Takanuva had signaled too late and Maruahi could do nothing to aid him without the Rangahau.  Maruahi teleported back to the Rangahau, put it on and sped as fast as light to Takanuva.  Maruahi made it in time to save Takanuva’s soul but could not save his body.  He sent Takanuva’s soul to the stars to be with the other six.  The two survivors of each village had survived because Takanuva spared Makuta, last villager of shadow and Maruahi was able to save Ekimu, last villager of light from Umarak.  Maruahi brought the two together and had them swear a blood oath of brotherhood so as to keep their two elements alive on the island.  He could not reason with Umarak because of the loss of Nobrahi.  Umarak turned on all other Elemental Creatures trying to capture them and force them to give him their power or bind them in shadows.  This made the villagers refer to him as “the Hunter”.  During the struggle between Maruahi and Umarak, Maruahi destroyed Umarak’s shadow hammer, cut off his legs at the knees and Maruahi combined with Uxar to unleash a jungle elemental attack that weakened and morphed Umarak.  Takanuva could not return with the other six when being called by the Protectors because his death was more violent and more recent so his essence was still healing and could not generate a body as the other six did.  Maruahi stayed behind and continued to find and expose threats.
